Your Ultimate Uni Packing List

Getting ready to move into uni? Exciting times! But before you zip up your bag, it’s worth making sure you’ve got all the essentials covered.

Move-in day can feel like a whirlwind, so having a clear university packing list makes everything that bit easier and far less stressful. From kitchen basics to cosy touches, a little preparation now will save you a lot of running around later.

At St Georges Tower, we are proud to be National Code accredited, giving you complete peace of mind. We were voted last year’s #1 Best Student Accommodation in Leicester, so you can relax knowing your new home is safe, comfortable, and ready for you! With the important things done, like fast Wi-Fi, a safe building, and an amazing location, you can now add personal items. These will truly make your studio feel like yours.

Consider the everyday items you will need. You will want bedding to make your room cozy. You will need kitchenware for your first cooking attempts. Also, gather study supplies to help you stay focused.

Don’t forget the small comforts – fairy lights, cushions, or photos from home can make a huge difference when you’re settling in. Having your own checklist to tick off as you pack will help you arrive prepared, confident, and ready to dive into student life.

Bedroom basics

Your room already has the main furniture like a bed, mattress, wardrobe, desk, and chair. Now, focus on the extras that add home comforts and personality.

  • Duvet, duvet cover + sheets
  • Pillows + pillowcases
  • Laundry basket or laundry bag
  • Clothing hangers
  • Bin + liners
  • Decorations: cushions, throws, fairy lights, photos

Bathroom kit

Even in a studio with an en-suite all to yourself, these are worth having from day one:

  • Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel
  • Toothbrush + toothpaste
  • Hand soap
  • Toiletry wash bag
  • Towels (bath + hand)
  • Shower flip-flops / sliders
  • Toilet roll (move-in essential)
  • Household + health must-haves

The extras that often get forgotten – but make life easier:

  • Cleaning bits (wipes, spray, maybe even a mini vacuum)
  • Spare sheets + towels (no waiting on laundry)
  • First aid kit (plasters, antiseptic wipes, painkillers)
  • Any prescription meds, organised and labelled
  • Travel-sized toiletries for your first couple of days

Kitchen essentials

Check what’s provided in your flat first, then top up with:

  • Mug, plate, bowl + cutlery set
  • Sharp knife + cutting board
  • Frying pan + saucepan
  • Tupperware for leftovers
  • Tea towels + sponge
  • Bin bags, foil + cling film
  • Cupboard staples (pasta, teabags, baked beans, bread)

Tech + study gear

You’ll use these every day, so don’t leave them behind:

  • Laptop + charger
  • Extension leads (you’ll thank yourself later)
  • Headphones
  • Portable phone charger
  • USB or external hard drive
  • Basic stationery

Comforts + extras

The finishing touches that make a new room feel like home:

  • A blanket or throw
  • House plants
  • Snacks from home
  • Photos or art prints (Only Command Strips please!)

Not the most exciting bit, but you’ll need it:

  • Passport, ID and other important documents
  • Bank details
  •  Student finance info
  • NHS Number / GP info

Make it yours

Starting uni is about more than unpacking a suitcase. Creating a space that feels right for you and joining a new community is important. Get the basics covered, add the personal touches, and remember: it doesn’t need to be perfect on day one. The best part of living at St George’s Tower is not just your belongings. It’s the experiences, friendships, and memories that will make it feel like home.

Here’s to move-in day – and everything that follows!
